Jovie has amazing energy and is incredibly fun to work with. They always have great ideas for poses and concepts, so a shoot with them turns into a real back and forth, and my main job is keeping up.

We shot this set in a graffiti-covered tunnel at River Bend Nature Center in Faribault, Minnesota. Hanging lights run along the arched ceiling, the far end glows with daylight, and the wet floor throws all of it back up at you. Add some heavy chain and there was plenty to play with.

Let it get loud

Then there's this one: Jovie running straight at the camera, screaming, at 1/20 of a second. It's blurry and it's in black and white, and it's the closest a still photo gets to that energy.

Three lenses, half an hour

The camera data says this whole set took about half an hour, in one tunnel, and the lenses are what keep it from looking like one idea. The first frames are on a Viltrox 27mm, the 13mm stretches the tunnel out until it seems to go on forever, and the 75mm at f/1.2 pulls those same ceiling lights into soft circles behind Jovie.
